So freaking amazing. . . Sophie should be the master guide, and you are a mom of impeccable instincts, not just parenting a DS child, but any child.

Ah, interesting topic. My son is 13 and has Ds – he talks about having Down syndrome all the time. He’s obsessed with watching ‘Born this Way’…he has anxiety in public and says everybody is staring at him because he has Down syndrome (and how can I tell him that’s not true?).

There are some kids with Ds who enter puberty, which comes along with a great amount of self-consciousness – who struggle with their identity. I naively didn’t see this coming and had no idea that this was a thing. We are working with a therapist to help get a handle on identity – I want him to embrace who he is, extra chromosome and all…and for us to all celebrate that too. (Even if the world doesn’t celebrate alongside of us). This is hard stuff! Thanks so much for writing about it….

Hi. Is there any chance you will pin any of your blog posts to your pinterest? This is one I’d like to save for my Vera, no for me, to read in a few years. She’s only 3 now. But I follow you on pinterest as well as subscribe to you here. Any chance you would consider keeping a blog board for your understudies? Those of us following behind? I tried to pin this from here but am having some difficulties.
