Chris Rush’s portraits are compelling. The simple honesty and beauty emanate from the subject straight to the viewers soul. Essence to essence, expressing so gently the oneness of us all. Something we tend to overlook in our rush to succeed. I find myself contemplating what success means in todays society and comparing it to the meaning of happiness. They do not equate. Oh, the happiness radiating from John With White Pumpkin. Thank you Chris Rush.

i posted this on facebook and it seemed, from a comment i got, that i didn’t explain very well the difference i see between glover and rush. before i could formulate an articulate reply, a friend did it for me (love facebook!). karen put it eloquently:

Glover’s work sounds like sensationalism: Hey, wow, look, I’m using people with DS and I’m not even noting it! Conspicuous in its silence. Rush’s work is clear, honest, and outspoken: Disability makes people different in some ways, but not all ways.
