I have this when my step daughter comes to visit with her kids. Her two oldest daughters are Rickis age (one before and one after), and when I see them I get the stabbing realization that Ricki should have been like them…….

Amy, this is beautiful. Bittersweet, to be sure. Having that mirror held up to Sophie must be hard. It sounds like the girls all have their special and different relationships, not better, just different. And the example you gave of you and your sister, well that says it all. Doesn’t make it all that much easier though, I imagine. But like you said, what choice do we have? Time will tell.
